Bruce Trail Hockley Valley Provincial Natural Reserve
Behind me is the stream after Cannings Falls within the Hockley Valley Provincial Nature Reserve. This reserve is located at Hwy 10 and Hwy 7 (North East). This reserve is part of the Bruce Trail. It was a warm day for January and the natural topological contours kept us protected from any sort of wind chill because it was very windy on peaks. We hiked within the contours which made it an interesting hike as we had to climb up and down the hills. We had great views of the area and all the lovely trees and streams running through the bottom of the valley.
For this particular picture, lets just say I was not cold which is evidenced by my ridiculous hat. It was also apparent that my brother and Brittany had lots of fun in the background!
Hiking Figures
So we ended up walking for 7.16 kilometres for approximately 1:53 hours with an average moving speed of 4.43 km/h. There was approximately change in elevation of 50 metres twice and a final 100 metre change in elevation at the very end of our hike which ended at 375 metres high. This was a steep incline and caused some perspiration, but after we climbed up there was a steep descent to the end of our trail for the day. The views from the 375 metre elevation were outstanding as you could gain a sense and an understanding of the valley and its contours. In addition, you could see the Hockley Valley resort which is a very large building for the area. And it feels a little out of place.
Conclusion
It was a perfect day for a perfect hike.
The only downside was that we did not see any wild life! We should have inspected the small stream closer perhaps we could have seen the Northern Brook Lamprey. Perhaps next time.
